Kedir Hassan - Hambela Dabaye, Guji - Washed Process Ethiopia
This washing station is managed by Kedir Hassan, a coffee farmer himself. A proficient engineer, Kedir built the entire washing station in one season with efficiency and quality in mind and it shows in the cup. Kedir purchases coffee from the surrounding Buliye, Wamena, Borticha, Dari Rogicha and Dabaye kebeles from several hundreds smallholder farmers.
This coffee is quintessential Guji coffee, with stonefruity and sweet flavor profile. As this station sits at a slightly lower elevation for Ethiopia, at 1800 meters, the coffees here tend to take heat and development quite well in the roaster. This allows me to push sweetness and florality together, which is not always possible! Such an exciting coffee
I taste:
Exceptionally clean lemongrass aromas alongside gentle fruit notes of cantaloupe and bartlett pear. On first sip, tons of sweet nectarine and peach punch through with florality on the aftertaste. As the cup begins to cool, simple syrup and honey sweetness begins to mix with the fruitiness presenting a peach coddler note. As the coffee develops further, earl grey tea and lemonade become a prominent and lovely send off.
