Gatare is one the oldest washing stations in the country, dating back in 2003. Located in Nyamasheke district of the Western province, the station is surrounded by hills covered by coffee trees. Gatare has competed in the CoE many times and always ended in the high winning lots.

Farming coffee in this region has been part of the culture, and RTC is heavily invested in the farmers through the agronomy training, access to finance via pre harvest loans, and coffee tree rejuvination where each year 50K trees are given to the community of about 600 farmers.

Honey process allows part of the coffee cherry fruit to stay intact on the coffee seeds; this typically imparts sweetness, fruitiness and added structure to the cup. This is no excepton here! Expect a dynamic and fruit forward cup, backed by sweetness and body of the Red Bourbon variety. Meticulous processing gives this cup cleanliness and vibrancy.

We taste:

Electric acidity, with facets of red plum and prunes. There is a subtle florality to this coffee of jasmine and white tea. As the cup cools, expect a silky mouthfeel and added structure to the fruit character; red plum and prune transforms into lychee and dragonfruit while white tea transforms into black tea with a slightly amplified tannic sensation.
